Role:
To provide leadership, be an effective strategist and good networker. The chairperson is responsible for making sure that each meeting is planned effectively, conducted accordingly to the constitution and matters are dealt with in an orderly, efficient manner.
Meetings:
- To introduce each item and its purpose, request contributions, encourage participation, ensure others do not dominate the meetings, delegate tasks, record votes and make sure the meeting keeps to time.
- To facilitate and make everyone feel confident and safe enough to share their views, challenge views of others and reach a joint decision.
- This role holds significant power because they shape the committee’s direction, set priorities and influence key decisions. They are pivotal in the committee’s effectiveness, controlling the agenda, moderating discussions and encouraging follow up action times.
External networking:
- This role requires flexibility and availability to attend local external meetings during working hours and in the evenings.
- The ability to form relationships and partnerships within relevant local associations and network with key stakeholders and potential contributors.
