The newly-formed Friends of Coronation Gardens held their first event on Saturday 6th July in the Gardens in warm summer sunshine. Building on previous events hosted by the Southfields Grid Residents Association, they encouraged local families to bring a picnic, sit and enjoy what our local heritage Gardens have to offer.
Local organisation World Heart Beat Music Academy brought a multitude of musical instruments for kids to blow, pluck or play, there was live music from the “Southfields Collective” aka students from our local Southfields Academy, and even delicious free cakes were handed out courtesy of local catering firm Little Ray’s Cake Company.
The Mayor of Wandsworth and local resident, Cllr Jane Cooper, turned up to enjoy the buzz, while the local scout group ran fun games for the youngsters.
The picnic was also part of the “Love Parks Wandsworth” campaign, which will include events taking place around the borough all this summer. It’s been set up to encourage everyone to get out and enjoy their favourite park. Those large pink letter promoting it that the Friends had for the day featured on many a selfie!
